On July 8, 2008 I stood 200 miles south of the equator on the Roof of Africa, the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. At 19,341 feet, it is the highest peak on the continent and the tallest free-standing volcano in the world. The Kilimanjaro trek had called out to me for a number of years. Annual participation in a 60K walk to end breast cancer taught me that I can push my body beyond what I think it is capable of and contact with an Everest summiteer turned my attention to the mountaintops! This year, I have been educating myself about Africa and my heart pulses with its graceful beat.
I CLIMBED TO THE TOP AND MADE THE DREAM COME TRUE! |
